How To Apply

PESi welcomes applications for the China Study Program from undergraduate students in good academic and judicial standing at any college or university. Before you submit any application forms, be sure to seek the advice of your institution’s study abroad advisor or your academic advisor.

For Summer 2011, we are offering a pilot program for qualified high school seniors and juniors with success in honors and AP courses.

Admissions Requirements

Admission to the PESi China Study Program is based on the following criteria: good academic and judicial standing, essay, references, demonstrable maturity and service orientation, extra-curricular activities, and work and volunteer or ministry experience.

We strongly encourage the submission of completed applications. Applications will not be reviewed until all application materials are on file. If an applicant chooses to submit an incomplete application, it is his or her responsibility to ensure that all materials are received by our office. Late applications are reviewed on a space-available basis.

The Application Process

To participate in the China Study Program, you will need to submit the following application materials. Please note that we will not review your application until we have received all of these materials:
  • General application form
  • Application essay
  • Faculty reference forms (1)
  • Personal reference form (1)
  • Study abroad approval form
  • Foreign language assessment form (for students enrolling in the Chinese language program)
  • Official transcripts of all college course work
  • A $50 non-refundable application fee

Application Deadlines: Beijing Program: April 30
Shanghai Program: (not offered in 2011)

Late applications will be considered on an individual basis only if there is space available and late arrangements can be made at the program site. All late applications must be accompanied by the application fee and $300 program deposit which is non-refundable, unless you are not accepted to the program.

Next Steps

Enrollment Confirmation - After PESi has received all of the above-mentioned materials, your application will be reviewed by our Admissions Committee and a decision made. You may be contacted by our office to discuss your application or to request additional information. Offers of admission are generally made within 2-3 weeks. You will then have 2 weeks to reserve your space in the program by submitting a $300 non-refundable deposit, medical report, visa materials, and other items specific to your program. The $300 deposit will be applied to the total program fee.

Medical Report - The required confirmation materials include a medical report which must be completed by your physician. To avoid any delays, please make an appointment with your physician at the time you submit your application.

Passport & Visa – You must have a valid passport and Chinese visa to participate in the program. Your passport must be valid for at least six months after the completion of the program. If you do not have a passport, or if yours will expire within six months before the end of the program, you should apply for one immediately. It can take six to eight weeks to receive a new passport, so if you are applying after the April 30 deadline, please contact PESi to determine whether you will need to expedite your passport application. Visas will be obtained by PESi for the group once passports and visa application materials have been received. PESi can also provide instructions regarding how to apply for your own visa.

In such a case, accepted applicants would be given the choice of switching to a different program site for the same period, deferring participation to a later session at the same site, or withdrawing and receiving a full refund of all payments made. Students who choose to cancel their enrollment prior to the program’s start date are eligible for a partial refund as described in our pre-departure materials.
